Leek's highly anticipated Jubilee Party in the Park event was called off this weekend due to the bad weather - but luckily some of the celebrations were still able to continue indoors.

We reported recently how the Party in the Park was due to return on Sunday (5th June), and this year it would also be part of the celebrations for a packed calendar on Platinum Jubilee weekend in Leek.

There was due to be a funfair, live music, a giant water slide and much more for people to enjoy in Brough Park.

However, the party was cancelled on the morning of the event due to weather concerns.

A spokesperson for Leek Town Council said on the day: "After a 7am site meeting we have very reluctantly decided to cancel today's Party in the Park.

"The rain has made surfaces treacherous and seriously compromises the safety of the bands in the bandstand. Apologies for any inconvenience caused."

But all was not lost, as it was later announced at the last minute that the event could still partially go ahead indoors at The Maude.

A town council spokesperson said later that day: "Leek party in the park relocated to The Maude Institute, Clerk Bank Leek.

"Live bands from 12:30 PM as advertised! Hunter onstage at 4.30 p.m. Free admission and there's a bar."

The indoor availability meant the free event could still be held despite the weather, with live music including:

  • Hunter
  • Unlucky Strike
  • The Sixties Survivors
  • White Knuckle Ride

Did you still attend the last minute indoor version of the party in the park? Feel free to let us know in the comments on social media!
