Over 650 signatures have now been received on a petition calling for the ambulance stations in Biddulph and Leek to remain open.

Nub News reported earlier this week how the petition had around 250 signatures, but this figure has more than doubled in the last three days.

The petition is now sitting at 666 signatures at the time of writing.

It comes after councillors grilled West Midlands Ambulance Service over the potential closure of the stations at a recent meeting.

The service has named 10 stations, including the ones in Biddulph and Leek, as those with futures that are being reviewed.

The service says only 5% of the calls it receives are responded to from these 10 stations, which are located in Staffordshire as well as other areas of the West Midlands including Shropshire, Worcestershire, and Warwickshire.

However, residents and local councillors have come out in opposition to the decision, with Staffordshire Moorlands District Council leader Sybil Ralphs saying in a statement that closing the two Moorlands stations could cost lives.
