Thousands of pounds have been raised for a Leek teen who is fighting for his life after being hit by a van.
18 year old Lewis Roberts has been in hospital in a serious condition since he was struck by a van on Broad Street in Leek on March 13th, suffering life threatening head injuries.
Four days later his family were told that he had lost his life, and agreed to donate his organs to help other people.
But miraculously, he began to breathe on his own again just hours before the surgery was due.
He has now even started to react to pain tests, moving limbs on his own and also moving his head side to side, blinking and also moving his mouth.
The story has since gone national, being covered in several major publications around the country.
A fundraiser has also been set up for Lewis, and despite only being created a day ago, it has already raised over £2,000 for him.
The fundraiser is still up on GoFundMe, and if you would like to donate then click here.
Lewis' cousin Chloe Roberts set up the fundraiser.
She said: "On March 13th 2021 Lewis had suffered catastrophic head injuries when he was struck by a van in his home town Leek.
"After being flown to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery, four days later on March 17th the doctors broke the news to our family that nothing more could be done as he'd unfortunately suffered a "brain stem death" and sadly passed away.
"After saying our goodbyes to Lewis, close family bravely agreed for his organs to be donated to help seven other peoples lives- buying Lewis extra time before his life support machine was turned off.
"Just hours before Lewis' surgery, he began to breathe again on this own. A miracle any family could wish for after being told he was given a zero chance of pulling through. After this Lewis had carried on progressing.
"He has started to react to pain tests, moving limbs on his own and also moving his head side to side, blinking and also moving his mouth. Everyday this boy is getting stronger.
"As many people have asked to send money for a pint for Lewis, setting up a 'GoFundMe' would be easier. Any money that is sent will be for Lewis when he is home and back on his feet. We would just like to say as a family, thankyou so much and we are very grateful for everyone's prayers and best wishes for Lewis."
At Leek Nub News we would like to wish Lewis a full and speedy recovery.
