A planning application has been submitted seeking permission to construct a new restaurant "focussing on chicken products" on a vacant plot of land in Leek town centre.
The plans, which were submitted to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council by Gastronomy Properties Ltd, seek permission for the erection of two new units on an area of brownfield land at Broad Street.
The land that would be built on is located at 12 Broad Street, next to the new Toolstation shop in the town centre.
The application explains that one of the units would be a hot food takeaway with dine in facilities "focussing on chicken products", while the second unit would be a coffee shop and bakery.
We reported back in January how fast food giant KFC has plans to open a new branch in Leek, according to documents that were published on its website.
The chicken restaurant published a list of hundreds of locations all around the country where it is hoping to open new branches, and Leek was one of those locations on the list.
However, there has not yet been confirmation that the restaurant mentioned in this planning application is intended to be a KFC.
Despite this, the plans do go into more detail about the proposed coffee shop and restaurant units, saying: "The coffee shop/bakery will be small scale with an assumed net floorspace of 89 sq.m, providing food and drink on-the-go such as breakfasts items, savoury pastries and pizza slices, hot and cold drinks, sandwiches and pasta, sweet treats, hot food, and other ancillary items.
"The restaurant will have an assumed net floorspace of 144 sq.m, include several covers, and will provide quick, reasonably priced food throughout the day and evening, focussing on chicken products. The restaurant will not serve alcoholic drinks and the average dining time is expected to be relatively short."
The plans also briefly mention KFC and McDonald's when comparing nearby local offerings, saying: "The only genuine comparable offer to the proposed offer is located outside of Leek with destinations in Congleton and Stoke-on-Trent providing a comparable facility including KFC stores in Stoke/Hanley and McDonalds stores in both Congleton and Stoke-on-Trent."
The plans also include 26 car parking spaces for the site, and adds that the development would create dozens of jobs for the town if approved.
It also states that the businesses would intend to open from 10.30am until midnight each day.
Meanwhile, plans to open a new drive-thru restaurant in Leek on Mill Street are still yet to be decided.
No official confirmation on what the Mill Street site could be has been provided, but it has been linked with Tim Hortons, who are planning a rapid expansion around the UK.
