Karen Bradley: 'It was good to see so many people turning up to pensioner's advice fair'

Karen Bradley: In this week's column, the Moorlands MP has discussed the pensioner's and carer's advice fair she recently hosted.

After a week of extremely high temperatures in Westminster, it was lovely to be back home and at least on Friday and Saturday, have a bit of milder weather.

On Saturday morning I hosted my Pensioners' and Carers' Advice Fair. This is the first in-person, large scale event that I have hosted since the pandemic and it was so good to see the many people who turned up to see the advice that was on offer.

I started off the morning speaking to local people on Moorlands Radio about the Fair and as I said then, I am delighted that so many organisations came along to have a stand and take part in the event. Thank you to SMDC and Sporting Communities for sponsoring the event, to my team and to the many local organisations and charities who were present.

As I made my way around the tables, I heard again and again how useful people found it to be able to speak to a real person about issues and concerns.

The last two years have been hard for our more senior residents and I have been campaigning for a long time to try and help tackle loneliness and elderly isolation.

The stands were all really busy and whilst there were too many to mention individually, I do want to share one particular piece of advice that I know was appreciated by many people at the Fair. The Fraud and Scam division of Staffordshire Police were offering email address checks to see if passwords had been copied. The website is www.haveibeenpwned.com and if you have had any breaches where data has been unintentionally exposed to the public or your password has been pasted, the advice is to change it immediately and not share your password with anyone.
