Leek Show has been a staple of the agricultural calendar for over 60 years attracting families and visitors from across the region - and this year Staffordshire Moorlands District Council will be joining all the other exhibitors by taking a stand at the Show.

In May this year the Council appointed a new Leader and a new Cabinet. Members of the Cabinet will be joining the Leader, Councillor Roberts, and Council staff at the Show and are inviting you to come along and find out more about the Council and its plans.

We reported previously how Cllr Roberts was appointed as the new leader earlier this year following a vote to remove the previous leader, Cllr Sybil Ralphs.

Cllr Roberts said the stand at Leek Show represented part of his commitment to interact more with the public following the change of leadership at the council.

Councillor Roberts said: "Since becoming Leader of the Council both myself and my Cabinet colleagues have made it a priority to listen to the views of people across the Moorlands and to be more visible to them so they know who we are.

"There's always plenty going on at the Council - from the work we're doing to address the climate emergency to our plans for regenerating our towns - and of all it is aimed at improving the lives of our residents, supporting our local businesses and welcoming visitors to our beautiful District.

"The Leek Show is a chance for us to talk to people about what we're doing and also to showcase the variety of roles the Council undertakes and the people it needs to carry out those roles.

"So please come and say hello when you visit Leek Show and we look forward to meeting you!"

This year's show takes place on Saturday 30 July at the Dunwood Fields showground alongside the A53 in Longsdon.

Councillor Roberts has been a member of Caverswall Parish Council since 1999 and a District councillor since 2003.

Commenting on being the Leader of the District Council he said: "It's an honour and a role which I will carry out to the best of my ability. In the 20 years that I have been a member of the District Council there have been plenty of changes but what has stayed constant is my desire to develop and improve the Moorlands for the good of everyone who lives, works and visits here.

"I know I'm joined by the Cabinet, councillors and the Council staff in that ambition and we look forward to getting on with delivering services and investment projects that the people we serve deserve."
