Being active outdoors and spending time enjoying nature has proven benefits for our physical and mental health - and Staffordshire Moorlands District Council says its investment in improving Leek's Brough Park is making it an even more attractive space to visit and reap these benefits.

Over the last couple of years, the council has worked with the Friends of Brough Park to install a new, bigger play area and has also invested in a floodlit skate park and a new multi-use games area and renovated two tennis courts creating an exciting activity zone in the park with lots of fun things to do for people of all ages.

Work on the refreshed tennis courts has recently been completed marking the first phase of a programme of improvements which will also see footpath resurfacing and repairs to the edge of the lake coming this year. The benches and bandstand have also been repaired and repainted ready for the summer months ahead.

Councillor Mark Deaville, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Leisure and Sports, said: "Brough Park is a much-valued green space in the heart of Leek and I'm delighted that the Council and the Friends of the Park have worked together to provide these new, improved facilities and amenities for the local community.

"Places like this are so special because they provide a haven where people can relax, meet friends, enjoy spending time outdoors and take exercise whether that's walking through the park or taking part in sporting activities.

"The Council recognises the importance of our parks and green spaces and is investing in protecting and enhancing them for everyone to enjoy. The work we've done here at Brough Park to provide a new play area and skate park and refresh the tennis courts is just the start and I look forward to getting on with the next stage of the programme."
