Windy weather on the way for Leek with travel disruption possible

Local News by Jack Lenton 8th Mar 2021

Watch out for windy weather around Leek later this week - as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning.

The warning covers the whole of England, with the meteorologists forecasting heavy winds and rain from Wednesday.

This could lead to travel disruption as a result of the severity of the winds coming to the UK from the west following an Atlantic storm.

Gusts of up to 50mph are being predicted in Leek by Wednesday night.

The Met Office has issued a yellow alert for high winds accompanied by heavy and blustery showers starting from 9pm on Wednesday until 3pm on Thursday.

Drivers are warned of possible delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges.

And homeowners have been made aware of possible short term loss of power and other services.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Strong and gusty winds are likely to develop on Wednesday evening and continue into Thursday across England and Wales. Gusts of 50-55 mph are possible inland, especially close to showers.

"Gusts may reach 60-70 mph on coasts and hills, especially in the west, before gradually easing on Thursday afternoon."
