Received an email asking you to update your billing information?
Police say criminals are taking advantage of the situation around Coronavirus by sending fake emails, pretending to be from your broadband/service provider.
These emails use alarmist language to persuade you to click on links and are an opportunity for criminals to steal your information.
Police have advised residents not to automatically click on links, and to contact organisations directly using a known number or email.
Officers have reminded residents that fraudsters can approach in person, through the post, over the phone or online, and added that sometimes they pretend to be from official organisations and they can be very convincing.
To avoid falling victim to these kinds of scams, remember:
- Your Bank will never ask for information such as your pin number or passwords
- The Police will never ask you to transfer or withdraw money
- If you see any suspicious behaviour, please report it to the police
Scams can be reported to Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040.
