Officers are tackling road safety across the Moorlands as part of a week-long campaign.

The officers will target locations including Leek, Cheadle and Biddulph that have been highlighted by local communities. Drivers without insurance will also be focused on.

It is part of the force's roads policing plan, named Operation Lightning, and will involve officers from the Moorlands Neighbourhood Policing Team and the force's Roads Policing Unit.

Operation Lightning aims to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries on the county's roads and to disrupt and deter criminals' use of the road network.

In previous operations, officers have seized cars and issued over 30 fixed penalty notices.

Sergeant Andy Bland, of Staffordshire Moorlands Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "We developed this operation to focus drivers in the Moorlands on road safety, their responsibilities to themselves and their passengers, and other road users.

"There are many areas of the Moorlands where there is no street lighting and it is vital that drivers ensure their vehicles are safe and roadworthy. Having defective tyres or a broken light can have serious consequences for all road users.

"We will continue to target any drivers whose behaviour on the road presents a risk to other road users or themselves."
