Staffordshire Police officers were in Leek over the weekend as part of a road safety operation that saw speeding motorists targeted in the area.

Police bikers set up speed guns on Newcastle Road in Leek on July 30th as part of their campaign to tackle the "Fatal 4" of driving - speeding, using a mobile phone, not wearing a seatbelt, and drink or drug driving.

The speed gun was set up at the junction between the A53 and Wallbridge Drive, where the speed limit is 30mph.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire's Road Policing Unit said: "RPU Officers are out supporting the Fatal 4 Speed Campaign.

"We're at locations raised by concerned residents and businesses in the Moorlands area this morning."

Other Staffordshire areas recently targeted by officers due to speeding concerns included Lichfield, Coven, and Cannock.

Sgt Pete Harris, of the Road Policing Unit, added: "For the next 2 weeks we will focusing our efforts on people who selfishly put everyone else at risk by ignoring our counties speed limits.

"They are a limit, not a minimum or a target. If you do ignore them and get caught remember, it's your fault not ours.

"Unfortunately I have had to tell many families that their loved ones have died as a result of one of the Fatal 4 and seeing that grief stays with you."
