Plans to convert seven Cheddleton flats into one large house

By Jack Lenton 18th Mar 2022

A planning application has been submitted to convert seven Cheddleton flats into one large house.

The plans were recently submitted to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council by a Mr T Hovland, and relate to Langdale House, just off Cheadle Road, north of Ox Pasture.

Langdale house is a detached two storey house which is currently occupied by seven self-contained apartments. However, they are currently unoccupied due to their dilapidated condition.

The application seeks permission to convert the seven apartments into a single large house.

A planning statement prepared on behalf of the applicant explains that the house would include: "a porch, entrance hall, kitchen, four reception rooms with bathroom, w.c. and storage at ground floor with master bedroom complete with en-suite and dressing room, four further bedrooms, study and bathroom at first floor and a further bedroom in the attic space."

The work would be carried out internally and no external changes to the building would be necessary.

The building was put up for sale in October 2020 by local estate agent Whittaker and Biggs for offers in the region of £400,000. The estate agent said at the time: "Langdale House, Cheddleton, is a substantial detached property being formerly a Vicarage constructed in 1897 and converted into seven residential units.

"Part of the building is currently let and a programme of refurbishment has been undertaken by the current owner which is partially completed."

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council's planning officers will have the final say on the application at a later date.
