Permission granted to convert part of Leek pub into apartments
A planning application to partially convert a Leek pub into apartments has been approved by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.
Full planning and listed building consent has been granted for the part conversion of the Quiet Woman pub on St Edwards Street.
The plans were approved by the council's planning officers last week, with the applicant's agent being "pleased" with the decision.
A spokesperson for the agent - Ian Ankers Architecture - said: "We're pleased to announce we have secured Full Planning and Listed Building Consent for the part conversion of The Quiet Woman Public House to Holiday Apartments.
"The scheme looks to fully utilise the outbuildings and first floor accommodation whilst maintaining the public house to St Edwards Street.
"This has been a fantastic project to work on and we look forward celebrating with a couple of pints in the bar once the doors re-open."
The application stated that the Grade 2 listed building has been owned by several landlords over the last 5 - 6 years, but they "failed to create a viable business from the premises".
The building's current owners, Woodcocks and Leather Partnership, therefore sought to change the rear outbuildings into two holiday apartments centred around the existing courtyard.
The apartments will each have two bedrooms, and the pub will be maintained as part of the plans.
Approving the plans, a report by the district council's planning officers stated: "The proposals comprise tourist development which would support the vitality and viability of the town centre and support an existing business within and making use of an historic building.
"The proposal is in line with the development plan strategy in these regards and compliant with those policies referenced above.
"There are no other harms, with specific consideration for highway safety, neighbour amenity, and fabric of historic building, that would outweigh those considerations in favour."
