A new batch of signatures calling for 20mph speed limits to be introduced in Leek town centre has again been presented to Staffordshire County Council.

Leek Nub News reported previously how petition calling for a 20mph speed limit and safer pedestrian crossings in Leek town centre was presented to Staffordshire County Councillors back in October.

At the time the petition, set up by local resident Roger Warrillow, had amassed over 1,000 signatures.

The petition now has a grand total of over 4,000 signatures, and the new signatures were presented at a meeting of Staffordshire County Council held earlier this week.

The signatures were again presented to councillors by Cllr Charlotte Atkins, who represents the Leek South ward.

She said: "I'd like to present this petition, which is the latest tranche of a petition which now numbers 4,000 signatures.

"They are asking for a 20mph speed limit in Leek, to make it safer, to make the air better, and to make it a more pleasurable experience to walk around Leek and enjoy its lovely historic town centre.

"I'd like to add these, and I'm pretty sure there will be more to come, so I hope (Staffordshire County Council's department for) Highways is listening."

The new signatures were presented to the council, but were not discussed any further.
