The Met Office has issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for Leek and its surrounding areas this week, with the town set to be hit by storms on Friday (6th August).

The warning is in place from 10am - 12 midnight on Friday this week, with slow moving thundery downpours predicted in the town throughout the day.

The Met Office says there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater.

They have also warned that spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

The warning also comes with the advice that, where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

The warning is in place for the areas of England, Wales and Northern Ireland that are north of Birmingham, but south of Glasgow.

Forecasts have predicted light showers in the midweek before the rain grows in intensity and peaks on Friday before petering off again over the rest of the weekend before the dry weather returns early next week.
