Leek Town took on play-off chasing Bootle FC for a Pitching In NPL West league match at the Harrison Park, on crisp spring Saturday afternoon. The Blues knew this would be a tough game as Bootle needed to win to keep any play off hopes alive. On the previous Saturday, the Blues played well away at Colne FC with a battling 1-0 win, the Leek goal coming from a Louis Keenan penalty kick. It was a good all-round team performance and the Blues manager Neil Baker was clearly looking to get another positive result this time home in the league. Unfortunately, Baker was hampered by a few injuries and was not able to pick from a fully fit squad for this important match, notably missing strikers Tim Grice and Rob Stevenson. The game proved to be a great advertisement for the non league football with both teams giving 100% and playing at a high tempo. A crowd of 429 saw a Leek Town side bounce back after conceding an early Bootle goal, the Blues goals came from Dan Trickett-Smith brace and a first goal for Ammar Dyer to seal the victory in a competitive and at times, combative 3-1 win. In a busy start to the match both teams had chances, but it was Bootle's Connor Millington who scored first for the visitors, coolly punishing a Blues defensive slip up on 7 minutes with an exquisite chip, Leek 0 – 1 Bootle. The Blues were clearly stunned by the goal and tried to push forward with Edge and Reeves slowly starting to control play for the home team. On 16 minutes, Leek striker Dan Trickett-Smith was unlucky to see a fine shot shave the woodwork with away goalkeeper Theo Roberts looking on helpless. The match was played at a fast pace and had a very competitive edge, with heavy tackles coming in from both teams and on 20 minutes Leek's Ammar Dyer was cautioned by referee Lamb. Shortly after Jesse Bavanganga was forced off and Josh Ryder replacing the injured Blues defender. However momentum in the game changed when after some fine play from experienced midfielder Lewis Short, it was the mercurial Dan Trickett-Smith of Leek Town who equalised when he scored with a super strike from a twenty yards out on 28 minutes, Leek 1- 1 Bootle. The home team were now in control and in the final minutes of the period, Leek forwards Trickett-Smith and Dyer had chances well saved by Bootle keeper Roberts. HT LEEK TOWN 1 - BOOTLE 1 After a delayed kick off due to a spectator needing medical treatment after a fall, both teams emerged from the tunnel ready to commence the game. The Blues started strongly and soon took the lead when young midfielder Ammar Dyer (63 minutes) scored from close range with a header when some good play from Louis Keenan on the left fed the ball to Trickett-Smith who laid the ball on a plate for him beating Bootle goalkeeper Roberts. Then within two minutes, Leek were further ahead, after good work from Saxon and en exquisite through ball from Davidson, Leek scored again once again through Dan Trickett-Smith with a trademark chipped, cool finish over Roberts into the empty Bootle net, it was his 16th league goal of the season, Leek 3 – 1 Bootle. Leek Town were now dominant and soon began to put heavy pressure on the visitors, who defended well with keeper Roberts pulling off good saves from Saxon and Trickett-Smith. In the final minutes, both sides attacked but the score stayed the same as Leek Town managed the game and deservedly took the points after a very good performance, particularly in the second period.
