Leek volunteers launch fundraiser to buy ambulances for Ukraine
A group of volunteers in Leek have organised a fundraiser with the aim of buying used ambulances and sending them to Ukraine.
The group, which includes Leek town councillor Roy Molson, have been sending aid to Zamosc, a Polish city near the border with Ukraine and the Ukrainian city of Lviv.
The team are now aiming to purchase used ambulances in order to donate them to medical teams in Ukraine who are struggling to cope with the many Ukrainians who have become sick or injured as a result of the war.
Roy said: "We are a group of volunteers who have been collecting and transporting aid to Zamosc, on the Polish border with the Ukraine, near to the town of Lviv.
"We would like to purchase two used ambulances to equip the medical teams in the Ukraine, desperately trying to cope with the many sick and injured in and around Lviv.
"Every pound donated will go to the aid work, none of us take wages, the premises have been provided free of cost by Leek Town Council.
"Members of our team include retired Police Officers, nursing and care staff, prison officers and NHS administrators.
"Your help would be much appreciated!"
The fundraiser is currently sitting at £1,705, with the team aiming to raise £10,000 by June 5th.
