A Leek travel company has thanked residents for their generous donations after vandals caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to their buses.

Leek Nub News reported previously how Aimee's Travel spoke of their "hurt and devastation" after their buses were smashed up by vandals, causing over £40,000 worth of damage.

The business were worried that the extent of the damage could spell the end for them as a company.

However, in an update the local travel company have now said that people's donations and kind words have given them the strength "to push through this vile situation".

A fundraiser for Aimee's Travel is still live on JustGiving, and if you would like to donate then click here.

In an update post signed by all the staff at Aimee's Travel, they said: "We would like to send out a massive thank-you to all in our community for the lovely comments of support, offers of help getting our vehicles back on the road and donations to make this possible.

"When I received the call last Saturday that I needed to get down to our yard, nothing could have prepared me for what I walked into, it reminded me of the awful images we see of war zones on the TV.

"I felt sick, my heart was in my boots and as I left I had tears in my eyes. To date I have not been able to re-visit our top yard.

"I personally know how important accessible transport is needed in our community. My own son Gary Jnr was born with no hip socket and never walked for three years, I had a bad accident in the 1990's which put me in a wheelchair for several months and the simplest of tasks that we all take for granted can be like climbing a mountain if you are less able.

"These vehicles make peoples lives easier to cope with in a small way. We have had the pleasure of watching many disabled children go through the education system from pre school to further education colleges, taking them swimming, out on day trips and for respite at weekends.

"Less able adults, OAPs and nursing homes use us for doctors, dentist, and hospital appointments which are vital to these people. Why would any sane person of any age want or need to put this at risk?

"As a young child in the seventies I remember catching the Leek Town Circular with my Granny at least twice a day. This service is so important and a lifeline to many OAPs who use it to socialise, get their daily shopping, and go to doctors appointments.

"My family and staff have operated the town circular for close to 20 years now and the gratitude we receive for this is so heart warming. We have had OAPs in their 70's and 80's dropping off donations at our office this week to help us get through this and keep our services to the community operating.

"Thank you all so much for all this, your donations are so appreciated but your words of thanks and gratitude for the services we operate are priceless and give me the strength to push through this vile situation and get things back to where they need to be."
