Students at Westwood College in Leek have been told to self isolate after a case of Coronavirus was recorded at the college.
Parents were informed of the case in a letter yesterday (Tuesday), with students in Year 10 being told to self isolate for 10 days.
The self isolation period began on 21st May and will run until 31st May, with students returning to the school on June 7th.
Parents were assured that students would be given everything they needed to prepare for upcoming assessments despite the isolation.
The letter, signed by the school's head teacher, Matt Taylor, states: "We have been made aware of a member of our school community who has tested positive for COVID-19. This positive result has now been confirmed by PCR test.
"We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England. This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child.
"Following a detailed review of the circumstances, Public Health England have advised us that students in Year 10 need to self-isolate for 10 days as a result of this case. The period of isolation runs from Friday 21st May and concludes at the end of the day on Monday 31st May. Your son/daughter will return to school on Monday 7th June.
"Remote learning has commenced from today, Tuesday 25th May, with a combination of online lessons on Microsoft Teams and work set by teachers via email. It is essential that students check their school email regularly to ensure they are aware of any work that has been set and so that they can accept the invites to Teams lessons. If any students have any difficulty with ICT or with accessing any of the systems or software, please do not hesitate to contact the school via telephone or email.
"Students may be concerned that their preparation for their Year 10 assessments (scheduled to take place week beginning 7th June) will be disrupted as a result of this isolation period. Teachers will this week, through live lessons and email communication, be ensuring students are fully aware of the arrangements for the assessments and that they have everything the need to prepare."
