Leek Rugby Club have installed signs reminding dog owners of the need to clean up after their pets after finding dog mess on every one of their pitches.

Leek Nub News reported recently how the rugby club has just returned to training following the easing of lockdown restrictions across the UK.

But they returned to an unwelcome surprise thanks to "inconsiderate" dog owners leaving their pets' mess on the pitches.

The new signs remind dog owners that penalties of up to £1,000 can be issued by the council to those who don't clean up after their pets.

A spokesperson for the rugby club said: "At Leek Rugby Club we have erected new signage on all our pitches asking dog walkers to "Clean Up After Your Dog".

"On our return to training this week we found ALL the pitches had dog muck on them, left by inconsiderate dog owners. This creates hygiene issues for all our players and coaches.

"Our pitches are used by over 250 members every week, both male and female, from five years old upwards.

"We ask that anyone walking a dog on the club pitches keeps off the playing area and walks around the edges ensuring you clean up any dog muck.

"Staffordshire Moorlands District Council issues Penalties of up to £1000 for owners who do not clean up after their dog. If you see anyone leaving dog muck please report them to the council.

"Hopefully this will stop this problem and we can continue to ensure dog owners can use our facilities."
