The Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) at Leek Moorlands Hospital has reopened after the service was temporarily closed due to staff absences brought about by Covid.
Nub News reported recently how services were temporarily suspended at Leek Moorlands Hospital's Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) after too many staff were off work due to Covid.
Following the announcement a local campaign group described the closure as "unacceptable".
The closure was first announced on Monday 21st March, with services reopening today (Tuesday 5th April).
During the closure residents were instead asked to travel to the walk-in centre at Haywood Hospital in Burslem.
A spokesperson for Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust said: "We are pleased to report the Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) at Leek Moorlands Hospital has reopened.
"The MIU is currently open 9am-5pm (last admission 4.30pm), 7 days per week. This is a walk in service and no appointment is required. Thank you."
The unit was also closed temporarily in March 2020, with the Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust citing staff shortages brought on by the Coronavirus pandemic and low levels of attendance by local residents as the reasons for the closure.
Nub News reported back in June 2021 how the hospital finally reopened, albeit with reduced opening hours.
