The former Chief Constable of Staffordshire Police, Gareth Morgan, has been recognised in Her Majesty the Queen's New Year's Honours List for 2022.

Mr Morgan, who retired from the force in June 2021, is to receive the Queen's Medal for Policing (QPM).

The medal acknowledges Mr Morgan's distinguished service to policing which saw him serve a total of 33 years prior to his retirement.

Most recently, he served as Chief Constable within the Staffordshire force for four years.

Mr Morgan started his career in 1987 when he joined West Midlands Police.

He then worked for West Mercia and Warwickshire forces before joining Staffordshire in 2017 from his post at Avon and Somerset Police, where he had been the Deputy Chief Constable since 2014.

Current Staffordshire Police Chief Constable Chris Noble, who started with the force in December 2021, said: "Mr Morgan has dedicated many years of his life to policing, working in a number of different forces throughout the West Midlands and beyond.

"During his time as Staffordshire Police Chief Constable, he guided the organisation through an extraordinary four years, leading officers, staff and the public through a challenging public health landscape during the covid-19 pandemic, as well as responding to ongoing financial pressures being faced by the force.

"He was a dedicated leader who passed on his wisdom and experience by coaching and mentoring many chief officers as part of his commitment to enable continuous improvement of police leadership."
