Armed police arrested a man in Leek after a "serious attack" took place in the town centre.

The incident occurred yesterday evening (Monday January 3rd), and police dogs were also called in to find the suspect after he ran away.

Police have since confirmed that the man was found hiding under a car, and was then arrested.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire's Dog and Armed Response unit said: "S1Dogs have attended a serious assault in Leek Town centre tonight after the offender fled on foot from response officers.

"He tried to hide underneath a car on a driveway but was located by police dog Kev and arrested."

Anyone with information about the incident can contact Staffordshire Police on 101.
