Specialist animal rescue firefighters from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service had the considerable task of hauling a cow to safety after it trapped itself in a brook today (Thursday August 11th).

A crew from Leek played a key part in rescuing the cow that had become trapped in clay underneath the water at Endon Brook.

Luckily the crews were able to moooo-ve the cow to safety and a vet was then able to check the animal's health - and she escaped the ordeal with only a light 'graze'!

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service provided more information.

They said: "Specialist animal rescue crews from Leek and Cannock along with a crew from Hanley rescued an 18-year-old cow today that couldn't moooo-ve after it got stuck in Endon Brook.

"Thankfully, we were able to safely pull from the clay deep beneath the water and there was a vet on standby to check on the animal. We've 'herd' she's expected to make a full recovery."
