Moorlands MP Karen Bradley has paid her respects to Sir David Amess, the MP for Southend West who was killed in a stabbing on Friday (15th October).
Amess was stabbed multiple times at his constituency surgery at Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea. He was treated at the scene, but later died from his injuries.
Amess' killing was later declared a "terrorist incident" by the Metropolitan Police. The investigation is being led by Scotland Yard's Counter Terrorism Command and exploring "a potential motivation linked to Islamist extremism".
The suspect was identified by British authorities as Ali Harbi Ali, a British citizen of Somali descent. He has been detained under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act for Amess's killing.
Following his death, Karen Bradley has described Sir David Amess as "wise" and "a friend to all MPs".
She said: "I am so shocked by this awful news. David was a friend to all MPs.
"He had time for everyone and was always able to offer wise words to those of us who came into Parliament after him.
"My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family at this most awful of times."
