Here are the Leek roads due to be closed for Jubilee street parties
People in Leek and from across Staffordshire have been encouraged to host their own street parties and events to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee this summer.
On 2nd June and throughout the weekend, the nation will come together at a host of special events to celebrate the Queen's 70 year reign.
When it came to street parties, Staffordshire County Council pledged to cut much of the red tape, which can sometimes get in the way of local people celebrating and to give the green light to events such as street parties.
There have been around 100 road closures granted across Staffordshire throughout the weekend to allow people to host their own parties on their streets.
More closures are also expected to be announced over the coming days.
So far, six road closures in Leek have been announced. They are:
- Derby Street: Closed on Saturday, June 4th from 8am - 6pm
- Bath Street: Closed on Saturday, June 4th from 8am - 6pm
- Springfield Drive: Closed on Sunday, June 5th from 12pm - 10pm
- Sugar Street: Closed on Friday, June 3rd from 10am - 6pm
- Hugo Street: Closed on Sunday, June 5th from 2pm - 7pm
- Dampier Street: Closed on Sunday, June 5th from 2pm - 7pm
We will be sure to update you if more closures are announced ahead of next weekend.
Victoria Wilson, Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture at Staffordshire County Council said: "We want people to be able to enjoy the Platinum Jubilee this year, as part of what is going to be a fantastic weekend of celebrations across the country.
"Our job as a council is not to stand in people's way but to give them all they need to organise their own events and celebrations.
"I do hope that lots of communities choose to organise their own activities and events.
"They are a great way of bringing neighbourhoods together and boosting community spirit."
