Plenty of people turned up to see the return of one of the most popular events in the Leek calendar this weekend as Scooterfest was held yesterday (Sunday).
Countless scooters descended on the town centre for the event that was held for the first time since 2019 - the 2021 and 2020 events were both cancelled due to Covid restrictions.
But this year's Scooterfest was back as good as ever! As well as hundreds of Scooters of all shapes and sizes visiting from all over the country, there was also a DJ, food stalls and a large market.
We reported previously how there was recent uncertainty about the availability of the Trestle Market for Scooterfest due to plans by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council to refurbish the market hall.
Since then however, there was a change in leadership at the council and new leader Paul Roberts reversed the decision, allowing the use of the Trestle Market for the event.
Leek town councillor Matt Swindlehurst said he wanted the success of the event to act as a springboard for giving more local events a boost.
He said: "We all had a blast yesterday with the town centre packed with these iconic art forms. Now properly badged as an event under the umbrella of Leek Arts Festival, we celebrated Scooterfest's return in proper style.
"Now we have to harness that energy into future creative uses in order to drive Leek's economy. Not just the Trestle Market, but the Foxlowe Arts Centre, who have some fantastic ideas for expansion, the newly renovated Maude Institute, which is rapidly growing its reputation as a 'go to' venue, and, of course, our many pubs and eating places.
"Into 2023 I would want to see a food and drink festival in the town that celebrates our local producers. There is also the start of an idea for linking with Cheadle in the creation of a 'Churnet Valley' festival. Events in both towns but also guided walks, boat trips, steam train experiences right along the valley, that celebrate and educate, with regards to the rich natural and industrial history of the area."
