The playing fields at Cheddleton received some improvements over the weekend thanks to a hard working group of volunteers.

Around a dozen residents met on Saturday (23rd April) to make the area more wildlife friendly.

Their work included putting boxes up for birds and bats, and constructing 'hotels' for bees and creepy crawlies.

Ian Dakin was one of the local residents taking part in the day's work.

He said: "Thank you so much to the dozen residents who joined in with improving the habitat for wildlife in the wooded areas of the Playing Fields today.

"We put up bird, owl, and bat boxes, bee and bug hotels. We planted wildflowers and seeds, marked out no-mow areas to encourage more wild plants and beneficial insects, cut paths through to make the area more accessible and picked litter.

"Residents were fantastic in both donating and making lots of homes for wildlife and it was great to see some young folks come along.

"If you'd like to join in, look out for posts about future activities. Thanks again, everyone!"
