Dad completes epic Lands End to John O' Groats fundraising run for daughter's special school
A dedicated dad has raised thousands of pounds for new equipment at his daughter's special school by running the length of the UK.
We reported recently how Mitch Hulme was running the famous John O'Groats to Lands End route in order to raise money for Horton Lodge Community special school in Leek, which his daughter attends.
The route saw him run an astonishing distance of over 800 miles from Cornwall to the very north of Scotland and took him a total of 33 days to complete.
Mitch was inspired to take on the fundraising challenge when he heard that Horton Lodge needed £150,000 to buy some new equipment for their playground.
He has so far been able to raise an amazing total over £10,000 from his gruelling run, but has no plans of stopping as he aims to eventually raise the full £150,000 with more challenges in the future.
Mitch's daughter Dolly suffers from cerebral palsy, and Mitch is no stranger to taking on gruelling fundraising runs, having previously run 54 miles from his home to Birmingham to raise money for a wheelchair for Dolly.
If his John O'Groats to Lands End challenge wasn't tough enough, Mitch also suffered a broken spine just six months ago when he was hit by a lorry, but he managed to recover and become fighting fit again to take on the challenge.
He also temporarily gave up his work as a valeter so he could put one hundred percent of his effort into training.
People have since congratulated Mitch on his truly amazing achievement.
One commented: "Absolute legendary performance. Mitch Hulme is a true inspiration and pure proof that if you want something in life nothing is impossible."
Another added: "Amazing job Mitch. Can't believe how well you've done. Such determination. I bet you are so overwhelmed. Congratulations matey."
While a third said: "That is absolutely epic! You must be a bag of emotions. Accomplishing amazing things are suppose to be extremely hard and testing to the absolute core of you.
"I'm extremely proud for you. I couldn't do it and 99.9% of people couldn't. Be proud and know everyone's proud of you."
