Dozens of teams took part in an online quiz to raise hundreds of pounds for a budding Leek footballer's scholarship in America.
The quiz, which was held last Friday, raised over £700 for the scholarship at Missouri State University, with around 45 teams taking part, all from the comfort of their own homes.
The quiz was hosted by local resident Ben Knight, who has been using the Speedquizzing platform to keep Leek households entertained throughout lockdown.
Ben told Leek Nub News how the fundraising quiz came about.
He said: "Emma Priestman who owns Footprints Shoe shop in Leek contacted me after taking part in a charity fundraiser that I hosted for a friend that had been in hospital.
"She told me all about her son Jakob who has started his scholarship in the USA.
"She asked if it was possible to run a smartphone quiz night to help raise important funds towards his scholarship.
"We worked together and planned a fun evening of a mixture of questions and offered some great raffle prizes.
"Over 45 teams took part and had a fantastic night from the comfort of their own home.
"Emma was absolutely thrilled that we managed to raise over £700."
Emma said on the quiz's online event page: "All money raised (after fees) will go to support our son Jakob who is out in America on a soccer scholarship for four years.
"As an international student there is no funding available like students over here in the UK get, so all fees have to be paid upfront.
"The money raised will go towards fees for study, accommodation, flights, books and learning materials, kit and any extras.
"Events like this will help greatly and you will have a really brilliant night in the process which is what we want our events to be all about."
Teams donated £10 each to take part, and a prize of £50 was awarded to the winning team.
