A group of 24 men from Leek are planning to take on the three peaks challenge for charity after their friend was unfortunately diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The local group are aiming to climb the three highest mountains in the UK - Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon - all within 24 hours in October.

They are taking on the tough challenge in order to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity, which funds treatment of brain tumours worldwide.

The group decided to raise funds after Sam Cookson, the brother in law of two of the men taking on the challenge, was diagnosed with diagnosed with a stage four glioblastoma brain tumour.

Stefan Sales is one of the 24 taking on the challenge and is helping to raise funds on the crowdfunding platform JustGiving.

He said: "On the 2nd of October 2021, 24 of us from Leek will be hoping to complete the three peaks challenge, climbing the UK's three highest peaks within 24 hours.

"We have chosen to do this to raise money for the brain tumour charity. On the 18th of March this year Sam Cookson, his fiancé Hollie and daughter Penny received the devastating news that Sam had been diagnosed with a stage four glioblastoma brain tumour.

"Sam underwent an emergency craniotomy to remove as much of the tumour as possible and is currently undergoing extensive chemotherapy and radiation treatment in order to prolong life.

"By doing this we hope to find a cure for Sam and anyone else suffering from brain tumours, the brain tumour charity is the leading charity in trying to find treatments and cures and every penny really does help.

"If anyone could spare a few pounds it would be greatly appreciated, if not a like, share and words of support are just as appreciated."

Five months ahead of the challenge, the group have already raised an incredible £882 on JustGiving.
