This week's listing is an eight bedroom house at St Edward Street in Leek.

The property is on the market now for £600,000 with Denise White Estate Agents, with even more homes being available to look around on our own Property page.

Here's what's been said about it...

Situated in the market town of Leek, Staffordshire, The Old House, built in 1724 for the silk button manufacturer and Irish Quaker, Joshua Strangman, is a substantial house of elegant proportions set over three floors with a wealth of historical associations.

William Morris, world renowned co-founder of the Arts and Crafts Movement, and the world's first heritage protection group, the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, (SPAB), a prominent socialist campaigner, poet, visionary and designer, was a regular guest of Sir Thomas and Lady Elizabeth Wardle who owned the house during the nineteenth century. Morris and Wardle worked together to develop natural dye for the silk industry. Elizabeth Wardle's principal contribution was the organising of more that thirty local embroiderers to work together to produce the magnificent copy of the Bayeux Tapestry which was exhibited throughout the world and is permanently exhibited at the Reading museum.

It is not surprising this beautiful historic property is Grade II listed with its immense amount of character and elegance still retained. The majority of the house has been beautifully kept in all its original splendour, offering very versatile accommodation and graced with an abundance of original characteristics. This truly creates a wonderful feel, with large levels of natural light won from the large sash windows. The third floor does need some attention and offers a fabulous opportunity to design and create the accommodation you require.

The accommodation will suit family living or would be an ideal business venture being previously used as offices and would make a fabulous Airbnb or a party house (subject to any necessary planning consents)

The accommodation comprises a entrance hall leading into the large reception hall with, attractive curved staircase, exposed stone floors, a stunning arched entrance door into the inner hall and providing access into the ground floor accommodation. Contemporary glass doors lead into the sitting room which is an incredible room with full-height sash windows to the front with working shutters, an open fire with a feature grate, exposed wooden flooring, beams to the ceiling and a fitted bookcase.

The drawing room is entered by double doors again with beautiful sash windows and shutters, a multi fuel stove with a stone fireplace and exposed wooden floors, walking through to the garden room with windows and a door leading out to the rear garden.

A study/snug room is located to the front of the house with a stunning bay window, with fitted shutters, a feature open fire with grate and marble fire surround.

The inner hallway provides access to the breakfast/dining room, downstairs cloakroom, an additional staircase to the first floor and access to one of the two cellars. The breakfast/dining room provides good space and is off the kitchen so could be incorporated into an open plan design (subject to any planning consents) At present it has windows and doors leading out to the rear garden and houses the Rayburn which provides cooking facilities as well as the heating for the hot water system on the ground floor, a door leads into a storage room with direct access into cellar two.

The kitchen has the most stunning exposed brick and stone walls alongside exposed stone flooring. At present there is freestanding kitchen facilities with a Belfast sink unit, space for a cooker, a door and window to the rear aspect and access to the rear pantry/storage area and then onto a really useful locked storage area, ideal for bikes with access from the front also.

On the first floor is a large galleried landing which splits off to both sides of the house. Starting with the main bedroom , which is a stunning room located to the rear of the house with a door leading into an en-suite bathroom. The en-suite also has an internal door from the landing and the unique feature of a door leading out to a balcony overlooking the rear garden and a feature fireplace, alongside the normalities of a bath with shower over, W.C. pedestal wash hand basin. The second bedroom is located to the front of the house and again is a substantial room with a window to the front and a fireplace with access into an en-suite shower room. There is also an internal door leading into bedroom three/first floor lounge. Bedroom three is currently used as an additional snug room with a open fire with fireplace, fitted bookcase with storage and a window to the front aspect, There is another good size bedroom on this floor - bedroom four and a study/hobby room which is big enough for a single bedrooms.

The second floor does require some attention but offers a huge amount of potential with a box room/hobby room and another three double bedrooms, one with a room off which lends itself to be developed to an en-suite. The accommodation concludes with reception landing leading into the shower room.

The gardens are incredible, with different areas, full of colour with a huge variety of different plants. The gardens are beautifully kept and maintained, with attractive pathways, raised beds and seating areas. A walled courtyard, which enjoys a large level of privacy, incorporates a variety of well-kept, shrubberies and plants as well as access to small garden outbuildings.
