Tuesday, 23rd March, has been chosen as a National Day of Reflection by charity Marie Curie, who is asking people to 'take a minute to reflect and a moment to connect by joining in with a minute's silence at noon, shining a light at 8pm or reflecting on the last year in their own way.

The number of rapid Covid tests carried out at Staffordshire's network of Community Testing Centres has now topped more than 100,000.

With one in three people showing no symptoms, the testing identifies people who may unknowingly be spreading the virus. So far, testing has identified nearly 1000 people infected with the virus and allowed them and their contacts to isolate.

Highways crews in Staffordshire have taken to the roads in force to fix an estimated 11,000 weather-related potholes across the county.

The spring blitz is being supported by an additional £5 million being invested by the county council in road maintenance over the next twelve months. In addition to this, an extra £2 million is also being invested this year in improving problem road drains, gully emptying and additional roadside grass cutting.

With the weather forecast to pick up in the next fortnight, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is urging people to take care when out and about in the countryside and prevent the number of accidental fires needing to be attended.

Over the good weather spell that greeted the beginning of March, there were no fewer than eight secondary fires that occupied crews in the western part of the county alone.
