Many thanks to Woolworths History and Pictures for submitting this post! They have written about the impact that Woolworths had on Leek over the many decades that it was in the town.

Woolworths was a large part of peoples lives in Leek.

Since 1931 Woolworths had a presence within the town in Market Place after taking over a local hotel as seen in the first photo (from 1905) at the bottom left of the postcard.

The second photo shows the store after it had closed.

Sadly upon the demise of Woolworths in 2008/9 the Leek store alongside all the others in the UK closed down.

December 2008 was the time this particular store closed.

For anybody that worked at Woolworths or has a keen interest in Woolworths history you may wish to follow our Facebook page Woolworths History and Pictures.
