A new website has appeared asking residents to support a planning application to build a McDonald's in Leek.
We reported earlier this month how a full planning application has now been submitted for a McDonald's restaurant and drive-thru in the town.
The site of the new McDonald's would be at Churnet Works, Abbey Green Road, which is in the same place as the town's Sainsbury's supermarket.
A planning statement prepared as part of the application says the development would represent millions of pounds worth of investment into the town and create well over 100 full and part-time jobs.
Now a website, which appears to have been set up by McDonald's, has asked residents to submit letters of support for the plans to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.
It allows residents to fill out a form regarding the application, which it sayswill then be sent to the council.
The site also argues the benefits of a McDonald's coming to Leek.
It says: "If you want to see a new McDonald's Drive-Thru for Leek, you need to make your voice heard by representatives at Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.
"The new restaurant would develop the site adjacent to Sainsbury's on Churnet Way providing local jobs and economic investment. We need you to support our application by sharing your comments with the council:
- More than 120 new, much needed jobs, including career progression for people of all ages and backgrounds
- Increased investment in the area, as well as business rates payable on the new restaurant to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council for them to spend on the provision of key local services
- Increased spending in the local economy
- Reduced car journeys to neighbouring towns as the new McDonald's would be in a sustainable and convenient location for local residents
- The new restaurant will also support the local community, by organising community litter picks and sponsoring junior sports
"Please complete the form below to send your support to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council Planning Department."
