Staff at Leek Morrisons offered voluntary redundancy with home deliveries due to be scrapped
Staff at Leek's branch of Morrisons have been offered voluntary redundancy as the supermarket was named as one of 50 around the country that are due to end their home delivery service.
The supermarket says it is making the change because it had to scale up home deliveries during the pandemic, when many shoppers chose not to visit supermarkets in person.
Now that restrictions have eased, the supermarket is beginning to scale its home deliveries back down.
Morrisons is aiming to end home deliveries from the 50 stores in October, but says that its overall ability to deliver to its customers' homes won't be affected.
The supermarket also says that, as well as being offered voluntary redundancy, affected employees could also be offered the chance to move into a different role within the company.
Around 150 Morrisons stores across the UK will still offer the home delivery service.
Despite this it's thought that at least 1,400 employees will be affected by the changes - the Leek branch alone employs around 200, with most of these being paid by the hour.
