Repair work has begun on the walls surrounding a historic Leek church.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council says it is currently repairing the boundary walls of St Edward's Church, which is on Church Street in Leek.

The work started this week and is expected to take around eight weeks, the authority says.

A spokesperson for the council said: "We're carrying out localised repairs to the boundary walls of St Edward's Church.

"Work started on 6th June and will run for 8 weeks."

It's not the only work taking place on the Grade II listed church. We reported recently how the church will soon be made more accessible and wheelchair-friendly after a new ramped entrance was approved by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.

The church is one of Leek's oldest features. It dates back as far as 1297 and was modified many times over the following centuries.
