Police have issued a warning to a man who was "persistently begging" in Leek town centre.

Police issued a Community Protection Notice Warning to a 48-year-old man due to the begging.

Officers also say they are working to help the man.

The warning comes 10 days after police said begging "is not tolerated" in Leek.

After receiving reports of begging taking place in the town centre, officers urged "anyone who has been subject to this behaviour" to report it to the police.

Officers said that the "behaviour is not tolerated and will be treated seriously by our local officers."

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police's Moorlands team said today: "We, alongside Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, have issued a Community Protection Notice Warning to a 48-year-old man who has been persistently begging in Leek town centre.

"We're also working closely with local agencies to help address his needs."
