Moorlands police officers have asked dog owners to keep their pets on leads while out in public after a recent increase in biting incidents.

Officers say that in the last few months there has been a rise in occurrences of dogs biting people or other dogs in the Moorlands.

Police have now reminded local dog owners that they may be prosecuted if their dog is involved in such an incident.

PCSO Joshua Carter, of Staffordshire Police's Moorlands team, said: "Over the past few months in the Staffordshire Moorlands, we have seen an increase of incidents which have involved dogs, where they have either bit a person or another dog.

"We as a force know that this is not often the intention but this can easily be prevented by all dogs being kept on leads whilst out in public.

"A reminder to all is that if an incident occurs you are responsible for the behaviour of your dog as all dogs must be kept under control.

"Should any offences be committed you may be liable for criminal prosecution. Thank you all for your co-operation. "
