Police warn residents to be vigilant following scam 'Santander' telephone calls

Local News by Jack Lenton 12th Apr 2021

Police are warning people to be vigilant after two people were scammed out of a total of £26,000 by fraudsters claiming to be from their bank.

The individuals, who are not known to each other, were each called at about 5pm on Saturday (10 April) by someone purporting to be from Santander.

The caller states that the individuals' account has been compromised and advises them to send funds through an alleged secure system for safe-keeping.

However, the call is a scam and once money is sent, it cannot be retrieved.

People concerned about a telephone call they receive should immediately hang up and contact their bank directly in their usual way.

If you have been affected by fraud, contact Staffordshire Police on Facebook or Twitter, call 101 or 999 in an emergency.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
