Officers are appealing for information after two men died following a collision near Leek yesterday (8 August).

Police were called at approximately 4.30pm on Monday (8 August) to the A53 Buxton Road.

Officers attended as did colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Upon arrival, a blue Subaru Imprezza and a silver Citroen Cactus were found involved in a collision.

Sadly, a 48-year-old man and a 22-year-old man were pronounced dead by paramedics a short time later.

Their next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers.

Five other people, who were passengers in each vehicle, including a 48-year-old woman, a 15-year-old boy and an eight-year-old boy, were each taken to hospital with serious injuries.

They all remain in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

The A53, which had been closed from Thorncliffe Road junction to the Three Country Inn, reopened at 1am today (Tuesday 9 August).

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have saw what happened or who may have relevant CCTV or dashcam footage of the area at the time of the crash.
