Plans to build two new telecoms shelters providing superfast (FTTP) broadband to around 6,000 local homes have been withdrawn.
Leek Nub News reported back in September how two planning applications were submitted to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council by VX Fibre, seeking permission to build telecoms shelters on land at Hamil Drive and Fowlchurch Road.
The proposal stated: "The proposal is to provide a telecoms shelter that will provide FTTP to approximately 6000 homes in the Leek area."
The application came after Nub News reported how local councillors called for more to be done to provide local residents with faster broadband, particularly those who may struggle to afford it.
The cover letter on the applications stated: "The shelter is to contain active telecoms equipment, and will therefore require power, and contain backup batteries.
"It will be earthed, and secured, and will only require sporadic access.
"It will not require plumbing, nor generate waste, as it will not be in constant use.
"The foundations are four concrete plinths which will minimise further impact on the surroundings, and the plinths and shelter arrive pre-built which should minimise installation works."
However, the future of the plans is now uncertain after the two applications were withdrawn this week. The reason for the withdrawals is unclear at this stage, but we will be sure to keep you updated here at Leek Nub News.
