A new planning application to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has been submitted to build a new solar-powered holiday cabin in Leek.
The plans, submitted by a Mrs C Jackson, would see the cabin located at land off Stile House Lane, with the single storey cabin comprising of an open plan kitchen and living area with two bedrooms.
The cabin will be powered entirely by renewable electricity through its 12 solar panels, with no mains electricity provided.
A statement provided by Rob Duncan Planning Consultancy on behalf of the applicant states: "With no reliance upon non-renewable energy supplies to provide electricity, the proposal will contribute positively towards a reduction in greenhouse emissions."
The proposal also aims to increase the number of tourists staying in the Moorlands overnight, with currently only around 7% of visitors to the Moorlands being overnight visitors.
The statement adds: "The submitted proposal will help to encourage visitors to remain within the Moorlands and the Churnet Valley area, and in doing so the development will facilitate longer stays in the area and associated participation and experience of other tourism activities, to the benefit of the local tourism economy."
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council will have the final say on the plans at a later date.
