There will be no 'switch on' at Leek's Christmas lights switch on event tomorrow (Friday 19th November) - but the lights will still be displayed in all their glory for residents to enjoy.
It has been decided that the lights will not be turned on at a specific point with the usual count down due to Covid concerns, with the aim being to avoid large crowds gathering in the same place.
Instead the lights will be on from the start of the evening, letting residents walk around and enjoy the other attractions throughout the evening.
Leek town Cllr Matt Swindlehurst said: "We hope lots of you will want to come into town on Friday evening to enjoy the Christmas lights.
"To avoid the usual very large crowds at specific points there will not be the usual parade and count down. The lights will already be on to welcome you.
"Lots of things happening. Moorlands Radio, laser shows, and live music in Sparrow Park from around 5pm.
"Food stalls in Derby St, market stalls, children's rides, and more music in the market place. John Collins fair in the High St car park and, of course, all our lovely, friendly pubs, bistros and restaurants, and Monty's chippy!
"There will also be carols with the Salvation Army plus the North Staffs Storm Troopers and The Billerettes!"
Leek Nub News reported previously how Leek Christmas lights switch on will be a "smaller event" than usual this year due to rising Covid cases.
The Christmas lights switch on was cancelled altogether in 2020, so it's still great to hear that this year's event is going ahead, albeit not quite at the same scale as usual.
But there will still be plenty for residents to enjoy as Leek gets in the mood for Christmas!
