A new bigger venue for this year's Leek show is set to help the event bounce back after it had to be cancelled for two years in a row.

The Leek and District Show for 2022 will be held on 30 July at a new venue alongside the A53 in Longsdon. Organisers say the Dunwood Fields show ground allows more space and greater flexibility for different attractions, such as vintage commercial vehicles and horse and carriage driving. Access to the site is also set to be easier with on-site car parking.

Visitors can look forward to a county-class agricultural show. The programme includes sections for cattle, sheep, goats, and shire horses. Moorlands farmers will be represented, together with suppliers of equipment, tools, and services. Local nurseries and businesses are supporting the fruit, flowers and vegetable growers who will be showing their produce in the Horticultural and Craft Sections marquee.

"We want to deliver an exceptional revival of this traditional event," promises show director, Bruce Daniel. "We are going to broaden its scope and evolve the Leek Show's ethos to celebrate all aspects of food production in the Staffordshire Moorlands.

"We are looking for every opportunity to showcase best practice, and most importantly, the sustainability of local food production, from the farm gate to the consumers' plate," he says.

"The Moorlands is well known for its excellent cheese and dairy produce as well as charcuterie, brewing and other speciality food products, such as pies, pate, honey, chutneys jam and more. As bookings are gathering pace, we are bringing together some of the best of our local independent traders and food artisans, to showcase their products.

"We are confident that we can set the standard for regional festivals. And with more space available, the Leek and District Show will not only be bigger but there is also greater scope and variety of all sorts of attractions for all age groups and business interests."

how organisers had to cancel the 2021 show, saying they were told by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council that Birchall Playing Fields, which are managed by the council, could not be available to host the show due to "current levels of COVID infections and changes to assembly restrictions".

It was an even bigger blow for the organisers since the 2020 show also had to be cancelled due to Covid restrictions, meaning this year's show will be the first since 2019.
