New use approved for Leek's old Halfords building
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council have approved a change of use for Leek's old Halfords building on Broad Street.
The building will now be taken over by building retailer Toolstation after a change of use for storage and distribution was approved by the council.
The building can open from 7am - 8pm on Monday to Saturday at 9am - 5pm on Sunday, and there will be a trade counter open to the public.
It's expected that the new use for the building will create between five to eight jobs.
Approving the application, Staffordshire Moorlands District Council's planning officers said in a report that the new use for the building would be beneficial.
The report states: "The proposal would bring a beneficial end use to a building vacant for in excess of twelve months and would support the economic trading conditions and employment in the town.
"Although a different planning use, in reality the characteristic effects of the undertaking at the location would be very similar to those of the previous retail store use.
"Subject to the conditions as discussed the scheme can be recommended for approval."
