A new outdoor seating terrace is among changes hoped to be brought to a new Cheddleton pub following the submission of a planning application.

The application, submitted by brewing company Marston's, seeks permission to make alterations to the pub's outbuilding, including the removal of the roof, lowering of the walls and creation of a new outdoor seating terrace.

The historic pub was built in the mid-1800s and overlooks the Caldon canal.

The plans however, relate to a small stone outbuilding near the pub. A statement prepared on behalf of the applicant explains that the building is in poor condition and needs alterations to make the building safe and reduce the risk to the nearby canal.

It adds: "A patio area will be created within the walls of the structure which would allow pub patrons to utilise the area for outdoor seating."

Permission is also sought to remove a nearby tree for safety reasons, due to concerns that it may fall into the canal.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council's planning officers will have the final say on the application at a later date.
