Drivers with no insurance or MOT were some of those who had their vehicles seized in a day of police action on Moorlands roads.

Police were out in force around the Moorlands yesterday (Tuesday) and stopped several vehicles which had been flagged up on their system.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police's Moorlands team explained some of the action that had been taken throughout the day, saying: "Local Officers, as part of our proactive approach to roads policing, have dealt with another vehicle with no valid MOT, it is the law and its your responsibility to ensure the vehicle has a valid MOT."

Discussing another incident on the same day, the spokesperson added: "Local officers have stopped a vehicle showing no insurance. Further checks revealed there was indeed no insurance. Unacceptable for law abiding drivers to pay for insurance whilst others take the risk on the roads. Vehicle seized and driver reported."

And explaining a third incident that day, they said: "Local Officers have issued a traffic offence ticket for a vehicle having no MOT. 'I didn't know it was due' is not a defence, it's your responsibility if stopped."

On a fourth incident they said: "If you drive a vehicle it's your responsibility to make sure MOT, insurance, tax and condition of the car is in good order and you check this for yourself before you drive. This vehicle? 'Thought I was on the policy'. Vehicle seized, driver reported."
