Leek and Staffordshire residents have been encouraged to do their bit for the environment and help their garden to thrive with a discount compost bin offer by the county council.

It is being launched in partnership with GetComposting.com, which works with councils nationally to offer composting products and encourage more people to get involved.

The council says that composting has countless benefits, and spring is the perfect time to get started. The process involves recycling people's daily plant and food waste, along with any other organic materials. This can include grass cuttings, unwanted plants, organic kitchen waste such as fruit and vegetable peelings, tea bags, coffee grounds and even the vacuum contents.

Together, these will naturally decompose over time in these specialised compost bins to produce a ready-made mixture rich in nutrients to feed soil and nourish gardens.

To encourage residents to start composting, the home compost bins are on offer at special prices starting from £10.

Home compost bins, together with a range of special offer water butts and additional accessories can be ordered via the Get Composting website or by calling 0844 571 4444.

Staffordshire County Council's cabinet member for environment, infrastructure and climate change Simon Tagg said: "Our commitment to reducing waste through recycling by encouraging people to get involved with composting helps us to combat climate change, which is a priority to us as a county council.

"We would urge people to get in contact and make the most of this great offer. Composting helps to minimise waste in your household, which would otherwise go to landfill and contribute to polluting the atmosphere with harmful methane emissions."
