Leek musician to release posthumous album after Covid death in 2021

By Jack Lenton 10th Oct 2022

A posthumous album of unreleased songs by a Leek musician who sadly died with Covid last year is to be released in his memory.

Marcus Birks died aged 40 in September 2021 after being admitted to the intensive care unit at Royal Stoke University Hospital with Covid.

A campaign was then launched to get Marcus's music to chart in his memory. Marcus was in a group called The Cameleonz with his wife Lis.

People were asked to download their track "Should I Stay", with the aim of getting it to chart as high as possible in last week's UK singles chart.

The song charted on Amazon and iTunes' best sellers lists and received plays on radio and TV for the first time due to the campaign, with the people of Leek being thanked for their support in getting exposure for the song.

Now Lis is releasing an album of songs that the pair wrote together as a posthumous tribute to Marcus. It is expected to be released in November and is titled "Unfinished Heartbreakers".

Lis said: "Coming this November 2022: the album - Unfinished Heartbreakers.

"Songs that have never been released, some have never been heard by the public..

"Songs me and Marcus co wrote with our amazing friend Rob Wheeler, which Rob has remastered and created this beautiful album for all of us to cherish and remember..

"I am honoured to share this with you and I know Marcus would be so excited for you to hear these too.

"The album will be released in time to honour his birthday in November.

"We can't wait for you to hear these songs and this album will be available on all digital platforms."

A post announcing the album's upcoming release has received a big response on social media, with over 500 likes, comments and shares.

One person commented: "Can't wait to have a cry and a smile to these in my car. How beautiful."

Another added: "Can't wait to hear this, I'm sure it will bring many smiles and many tears too. Loved listening to you both."

And a third said: "I look forward to listening to this, sure it will be awesome."
